When you send a text message, credits are deducted from your account based on the of segments that message uses.

The number of credits deducted for a message segment depends differs by country. For the most up to date information on these rates, from within MOBIT, navigate to 'Settings', select the 'Text Billing' or 'Text Credits' tab, then click on the message rates button.

The number of segments a message uses also differs based on the characters used, the length of the message, and whether or not media (MMS) is included in the message.

Segments

The number of segments a message uses is based on the following logic.

1. If the message is an MMS messages, it will always be charged 1 segment, regardless of the number of characters used.

2. If the message is an SMS, it is based on the type of characters used in a message, and country.

   1. GSM  (GSM character set). 

      1. Non US - Messages up to 160 characters to use 1 segment. If a message is over 160 characters, 1 segment will be used every 153 characters.

      2. US - Non US - 1 segment will be used every 160 characters.

   2. Unicode (Unicode characters). Unicode characters are anything that is not classed as GSM. Common examples include emojis, symbols and foreign language characters. Regardless of country, messages up to 70 characters to use 1 segment. If a message is over 70 characters, 1 segment will be used every 67 characters.

Concatenation

It is important to understand that some wireless carriers and devices may behave differently than others when receiving SMS messages over 160 characters. The message may be broken into into multiple messages of 160 characters or less.
